The Firefox 2 Experience

2006-10-23

I have been using Firefox for the past few years and I have never returned to IE except to test the websites I develop and for Windows update. If there is an index of how useful small amounts of code can be, Firefox is bound to reach the top ten with little sweat. Such is the impact of this puny download you have to question the fuss behind fat Office packages - OpenOffice is another such lean fella kicking ass.

Tuesday was supposed to be my date with Firefox 2.0 and the thrill of anticipation returned after such a long time - never have I waited for software releases like this one. Windows 95 was one such good experience, and Win ME was the worst I have had to date. Thanks to The Register, I learned that builds have started appearing on sites earlier by a day. I had to wait for 5 long minutes for my slow DSL connection to get home the fox. Installation was absolutely painless and in a few seconds I had the spanking new Browser shining in front of me.

Was I impressed? Very much. Firefox 2 is like adding new paint and polish to a well-maintained house. Most of the improvements are under the hood - secure and easy browsing experience seems to be the primary aim of this release. One thing that hits you straightaway is that the User Interface doesn't stand on the way of your browsing. It gives you so much of space for websites. Site rendering is top-of-the notch. No one step is counter-productive moving on from the already excellent Firefox 1.5. It is very difficult to improve an already top-of-the-class browser, and that is what the Firefox team has achieved. Great improvement with nothing to complain.

You don't need a recommendation to install this beauty. Go ahead and be blessed!

Hello everybody,

Welcome to my personal blog and my operating system tutorial site.

I am a physician who turned to computer programming. I am now into web development using Java. I am passionate about two things in programming. One, to develop my own operating system - even something as rudimentary!? as DOS. Two, to develop a document management system for the healthcare industry that would be as simple as Google and as powerful as.. Google. I spend a lot of my spare time researching for my first ambition. I work at ANSA to achieve my second ambition.

There are some special people who made a great change in my life. Some of them my teachers, some friends, and some others. I hope to communicate with all of them using this blog. Some of them are in touch with me and I can do with them without this blog. There are many more who are not in touch, and I wish they would now know where to find me..

I take responsibility for all information on this site. So send in your bouquets and brickbats to my email that is listed at the bottom of this site.

Have a great day,

Dr. Mohan Raj Dhanagopal
